Temple Emanuel presents Havdalah & Talk with Rabbi Larry Englander on his recently published novel, "The Prince of Healers" which is a story of bravery of the spirit in the face of exile and betrayal. Moses Maimonides, a medieval rabbi, physician and scholar, flees from Spain across North Africa to escape persecution. Along the way, he meets the Syrian warrior Saladin who allies with Moses in the effort to create an empire based on mutual respect among Muslims, Jews and Christians. Although Moses wins wide acclaim in the Muslim world, he encounters relentless opposition from within his own Jewish community, which reaches a climax when they bring him to trial on a capital charge of heresy. In the struggle for his very life, Moses leaves a legacy of integrity and courage to his son — and to the reader.
