Judaism, Addiction and Recovery presents a Jewish faith-based perspective on chemical dependence. The author, Rabbi Richard Eisenberg, a former rehabilitation counselor in a drug/alcohol treatment center for 10 years as well as a pulpit rabbi for 35 years, wrote this book as a wake-up call to the Jewish community. His approach draws upon models that extend beyond the 12 Step philosophy. The spiritual and faith-based outlook presented by Rabbi Eisenberg offers newer ways of understanding the phenomena of addiction and recovery, allowing fresh concepts to emerge from the fog of addiction and its effects. Expounding upon Biblical and Rabbinic texts plus the author’s professional clinical experience, Judaism, Addiction and Recovery invites Jewish individuals, families and communities to find helpful direction in the wake of a growing personal and public health crisis.
