Elana Arian is a composer, multi-instrumentalist and prayer leader. One of the leading voices in contemporary Jewish music, her compositions are sung in spiritual communities, synagogues and summer camps all over the world. She serves on the faculty of Hava Nashira, the Wexner Heritage Foundation, Shirei Chagiga as well as the Debbie Friedman School of Sacred Music at Hebrew Union College -Jewish Institute of Religion in New York.

Raised in many styles of music including classical, jazz and folk, Elana studied conducting, violin, jazz guitar and songwriting at Yale. She performs as a soloist, as a studio musician and with a wide variety of artists including Peter Yarrow, the Dirty Projectors and Catie Curtis. She has appeared in venues such as Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, Tanglewood and the White House, and in the pit orchestra for several Broadway shows. She recently released her fourth album of original music, The Other Side of Fear.

Established in 2009, the TE Band has become an integral part of the musical fabric of Temple Emanuel. The musicians, ranging in age from middle school to retired folks, and ranging in ability from intermediate students to professionals, represent a wonderful cross section of the TE community. The band, directed by Laurel Shader, plays at Kabbalat Shabbat services several times each year and at various special events and celebrations. The band’s repertoire includes traditional melodies and contemporary tunes arranged by Laurel Shader and Anna Zonderman.
