Mark Gottdiener, Ph.D., Prof. of Sociology Emeritus, U. of Buffalo, Lynd Lifetime Achievement Award winner from the ASA, has written a book on "The Culture of Lying." It demonstrates how our "post-fact" culture is coming apart through the saturation of lying in our social institutions. Truth is no longer relevant, and negative sanctions no longer follow damaging acts of falsehood. Present socialization norms encourage deception with impunity. Come to hear Prof. Gottdiener's explanation of this problem, rooted in the Social Sciences.
