Corporate support brings visits to Sderot

I was just on Google News reading about the latest Kassam hits in Sderot and the southern edge of Ashkelon, which led to no deaths but did cause a number of residents to go into shock.

I came across an article that mentioned that an Israeli airline, Israir, recently sponsored an inexpensive trip from the US to Sderot and Ashkelon to lend support to the region. This is the first I've heard of this kind of corporation-run junket to the area, though perhaps you readers know of others worth mentioning on this blog. Please post them in a reply to this item, or shoot me a note at voicesfromsderot@ujc.org.

If you want to read more about the trip from one of the participants, check out this blog written by the editor of the Baltimore Jewish newspaper, Phil Jacobs. Among the nuggets in Phil's blog posting is that Israel uses blimps as part of their early-warning network to protect cities near Gaza. Blimps -- who knew?

This article in the Pittsburgh Jewish paper profiles another American who went on the trip.
