Federations Applaud Senate C'tee for advancing NSGP Improvement Act

Jewish Federations applaud the Senate Homeland Security and Government Affairs Committee for advancing the Nonprofit Security Grant Program (NSGP) Improvement Act, which will help secure the Jewish community by making the NSGP more robust and accessible.

The bill would significantly improve the crucial NSGP, increasing program stability and enhancing the Homeland Security committee's oversight. It would authorize up to $360 million annually through 2028 and establish a dedicated NSGP program office at the Department of Homeland Security, among other things.

Last month, Federations led a multifaith coalition in urging the legislation's advancement.

"The Nonprofit Security Grant Program is crucial for securing communities of faith and helping us protect our houses of worship, protections the Jewish community needs more than ever as antisemitic incidents and violent domestic extremism are on the rise," said Jewish Federations SVP Public Affairs Elana Broitman.

"Jewish Federations commend the Senate Homeland Security and Government Affairs Committee for advancing this important legislation, and will continue to advocate for steps that will strengthen this program."

Jewish Federations thank Sens. Gary Peters (D-MI) and Rob Portman (R-OH) for their leadership on this issue.
