2019 Mitzvah Day

Join together with hundreds of community members in acts of kindness. Make phone calls to raise money for the Federation Annual Campaign. Donate your time and your energy - you will be glad you did!
 
Mitzvah opportunities will include*:

  • PJ Library Storytime with Stacey: Enjoy a story with Stacey and sing a song. 
  • PJ Library Book Mark Making for friends, seniors or anyone who enjoys reading. All Ages
  • MakerSpace Napkin Holder Project:  Help beautify the tables of senior citizens in our community by making a nice addition to their dining tables. 
  • Downtown Evening Soup Kitchen Food Prep: Join us in the JCC kitchen as we gather together to make salad, mashed potatoes and brownies for Sunday’s dinner.  Ages 12 and up
  • Pop-up Craft Stone Painting: Express yourself by painting stones for our downtown cemeteries and the gardens at Tower One.  
  • Package food for JFS: Gather at JFS to bag groceries for the clients of JFS.  This meaningful activity is for ages 16 and up.
  • Game Time at The Towers: Spend some time with the residents of Tower One and play some board games.  
  • Painting Bird Houses:Join the residents of Tower One and help them beautify their garden by painting bird houses that they crafted.
  • Cemetery Mitzvah: Join us by the cement wall on Jewell Street in Westville and help beautify the cement wall by painting it.  Paint and brushes will be supplied. Ages 15 and up
  • Plarning at Temple Emanuel: Join the Temple Emanuel families by plarning, used to make sleep mats and soft surfaces for those in need. These mats will be located to local police deparments.
  • Bike Path Cleanup: Join us at designated meeting places in both Hamden  and Cheshire to clean up along the bike path.  A great activity for all ages while you enjoy the weather in early spring.
  • Shoreline Cleanup at Camp Laurelwood: Let’s get ready for camp by engaging in a few cleanup activities. There will also be rock painting at Laurelwood to beautify both camp and the gardens at Tower One and various other facilities in the Greater New Haven Area.  
  • Make cards for the Ronald McDonald House with Yachad, the religious schools for Or Shalom and B’nai Jacob.  
  • Share your Mitzvah Moment! Make a short video with your Cell phone against our Mitzvah Day backdrop that you can send to cheer up a friend or relative, share a mitzvah that you participated in, and just have fun!
