On Sunday, May 1, 2022, UConn Hillel will celebrate the 10th anniversary of the rededication of the Trachten-Zachs Hillel house, which was dedicated by Morris Trachten z”l and Henry Zachs. UConn Hillel serves as an invaluable resource to the broader campus and Storrs community. From providing for a safe and inclusive “home away from home” for Jewish students to socialize, worship, learn and relax, to the opportunities provided for student leadership, Hillel ensures that students feel a sense of belonging and connection. UConn Hillel works to serve the needs of Jewish students at all the branch campuses, in addition to students in the medical, dental, law and social work schools, all of which have a significant percentage of Jewish students.
On May 1, 2022, UConn Hillel will honor Lawrence Handler, ’67 and Dori Jacobs, ’22. Larry graduated UConn cum laude in 1967 and was the recipient of the Senior Accounting Award, Business Law Award and was inducted into the Beta Gamma Sigma business honor society. He also received an MBA from NYU where as a research assistant, won the Outstanding Faculty Member award. His career has encompassed public accounting, private industry and academia, including ten years on the adjunct faculty of the University of Connecticut. He was inducted into the UConn School of Business Hall of Fame in 1999. Dori is a senior at UConn with a major in Psychology and minors in Mathematics and Statistics. She came to Storrs from California and immediately immersed herself in Hillel. Her passion for the Hillel community and Jewish leadership led her to serve one term as treasurer and two terms as president of the Hillel student board, completing her final term in Fall 2021.
UConn Interim President, Dr. Radenka Maric will be the keynote speaker. Dr. Maric holds the rank of Board of Trustees Distinguished Professor and Chair Professor in Sustainable Energy in the Departments of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering, and Materials Science and Engineering at UConn.
