No Hate in New Haven Press Conference

On January 26, 2020, in advance of the International Holocaust Remembrance Day, the New Haven community came together with New Haven faith communities, elected officials, first responders, and law enforcement representatives to proclaim that hate has no place here. Judy Alperin, the Jewish Federation of Greater New Haven's CEO, led a touching, powerful press conference with leaders speaking to several hundred community members at Congregation Beth El-Keser Israel. Words of perseverance, hope, the triumph of good over evil, and of standing up against bigotry and hate were emphasized in the speeches of each one of the community leaders.

 

The Honorable Mayor Justin Elicker was joined by New Haven Fire Chief John Alston, Imam Omer Bajwa, a Muslim chaplain at Yale University US Senator Richard Blumenthal; Pastor Steve Cousin of Bethel AME Church, US Representative Rosa DeLauro, State Representative Pat Dillon; Rabbi Michael Farbman, the chair of the New Haven Board of Rabbis & Cantor and the spiritual leader of Orange's Temple Emanuel of Greater New Haven; Steve Ginsburg, the Connecticut state director of ADL; US Senate Representative Martin Looney, Dean Rabbi Yosef Lustig of Yeshiva Beis Dovid Shlomo; New Haven Police Chief Otoniel Reyes Board of Alders member Eli Sabin, and Pastor Kelcey Steele of Varick AME Church. Sydney Perry spoke at the New Haven Holocaust Memorial leading up to the press conference at BEKI.
