Camp Gan Israel Celebrates 70 Years Of Jewish Camping

This summer, Camp Gan Israel will celebrate 70 years of Jewish camping. Founded in 1949, CGI continues to be a pioneer in the camping industry, bringing the best that the Greater New Haven area has to offer. Last year, innovative programs such as Bring the Hoopla, 9 Square in the Air, CGI Avalanche, Kosher Chocolate Factory, and American Ninja Warrior Day debuted at camp.

Camp Gan Israel is located at the Barnard Magnet School in New Haven. Its beautiful, expansive facilities provide the backdrop for the ultimate camp experience. CGI has three divisions: Mini Gan Izzy (ages 3-5), Jr. Division (grades 1-3) and Sr. Division (grades 4-6). Exciting new field trips and activities, all built on the CGI hallmarks of safety, fun, and unconditional love, are in store for summer 2019. Over the past several years, the Camp Gan Israel family has steadily grown. The camper group is very diverse, encompassing families from all types of backgrounds and observances. CGI will work with every family according to their needs, to enable each family to experience a Gan Izzy summer.

Camp Gan Israel builds self-confidence: Campers try their hands at a range of new experiences and work to master new skills. Martial arts, yoga, archery, swimming, baseball, and STEM-based programs are just some of the activities offered to campers on a daily basis. Camp Gan Israel builds character: All staff members are trained in helping children develop the “Seven Critical Character Traits” with a focus on teamwork. Tzedakah/Giving is highlighted through special days and drives, such as the annual Chai-a-thon, where campers raise funds for seriously ill children. Camp Gan Israel builds Jewish pride. CGI is a totally non-judgmental environment, where all children enjoy a shared Jewish spirit through songs and activities. Camp Gan Israel builds friendships and memories that last a lifetime.
