Get Ready, Get Set, Go…to the Bagel Run

This fall will mark the eighth Annual Murray Lender 5k Bagel Run. On Sunday, Sept. 16, hundreds are expected to attend the event at the newly renovated JCC building. The day is planned as a family-centered event for the entire community. It is also the foremost fundraiser that supports the Health and Wellness Center.

The Murray Lender Bagel Run was named for well known businessman, JCC benefactor and fitness enthusiast Murray Lender. The affectionately named “Bagel Run” encompasses all that Murray stood for and believed in: family, food and lots of fun.

At this year’s event, participants will be greeted by staff at the JCC’s main entrance and ushered through the registration process as volunteers busily prepare the bagels, fruit and baked goods that the race has become known for. Outdoors, families with children of all ages can enjoy different activities, including a prerace dance party and taking a turn on the bounce slide. Red Skye Farm of Bethany will also offer an interactive animal program on the back lawn.

Look for JCC Mascot, Benny the Bagel, to make his arrival that morning and encourage children to head to the starting line for their very own mini run. Benny is always the star that day as he cheers on runners of all ages and poses for photos. In 2017, Benny greeted well over 300 runners, walkers and families from communities as far away as Goshen and New London. The Bagel Run has been listed as one of the best 5ks in the state and is well known in the area as a family friendly event that takes runners through scenic Woodbridge.

Thanks to the Bagel Run’s outstanding reputation, the race committee is expecting even more runners this year. Racers of all ages love the bagel medals given to all participants. Only a lucky few will earn the gold, silver, or bronze bagel medal… maybe this year it will be you?
