JCARR FAMILY RUNS FOR REFUGEES

JCARR’s “Family 9” enthusiastically joined in IRIS’s annual Run for Refugees. Their smiles, as seen in the attached photos, show the joy they felt in running through the streets of New Haven with 3,000 others who ran to show their support for IRIS’ work resettling refugees in Connecticut.

YOU ARE INVITED TO ATTEND REFUGEE SHABBAT SERVICES AT JCARR SYNAGOGUES

CONGREGATION MISHKAN ISRAEL:  Do you ever wonder what it would be like to pack your bags, take only some of your prized and essential items, and depart for a new country?  Maybe you thought about it when you visited Ellis Island or thought about your parents, grandparents, or maybe even great-grandparents coming to America.

Today, refugees face some of the same and some different challenges. Learn how they have faced expected and unexpected challenges, learned a new language, and adapted their customs and traditions to a new environment. JCARR helps resettle from a variety of countries. To hear firsthand from families from Iraq, Syria, and Angola, join us for an exceptional Refugee Shabbat Service at Congregation Mishkan Israel, 785 Ridge Rd, Hamden, CT, on March 1 at 6 PM - Oneg to follow.

CONGREGATION B’NAI JACOB will celebrate HIAS Refugee Shabbat at Kabbalat Shabbat services on Friday March 15 at 6:30 pm. Services will be followed by a dinner, which will cost $18 per person.  Services are open to all, and a link to sign up for the dinner will be available closer to the date. The guest speakers will be Maggie Mitchell Salem, the new Executive Director of IRIS, and Daad Serweri, Community Sponsorship Program Manager at IRIS.  For more information contact Kate Ezra at ezra.kate@icloud.com.
