In January 2019, JCARR welcomed an Iraqi couple who had been living in Jordan for a few years. Dad knows some words in English, but Mom is just starting to learn the language. Given that they are past retirement age, we don’t expect that they will be working. Their greatest challenge may be to get to know other people so they begin to feel at home in their new community. They are friendly and outgoing, and eager to learn everything about American culture. Dad says he wants to learn how to take the bus so he can travel all around Connecticut!
