JCL Orientation Program Set for Sept. 26

Volunteering to read at an area school for just one hour each week can completely transform the life of a child.

The Jewish Coalition for Literacy (JCL) is offering an information and orientation session for prospective volunteers at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 26, at the Woodbridge Club, 10 Milhaven Road (off Ansonia Road) in Woodbridge. All adults are welcome and no prior experience is required. Abel Catering will provide a light breakfast.

The JCL is a nondenominational/nonsectarian program that recruits, trains and places volunteer reading partners to share the pleasures of reading and conversation, one to one with a child who can benefit from the attention of a caring adult. JCL offers volunteers a unique, custom-built opportunity to help the community. For more information, contact Brenda Brenner at bbrenner@jewishnewhaven.org or (203) 387-2424 x308.

JCL is a proud recipient of a 2015 TAPS award from the New Haven Public Schools, & the 2007 Superintendent’s Award, granted by the New Haven Network for Public Education. It is a project of the Jewish Community Relations Council of the Jewish Federation of Greater New Haven.
