Jewish Teen Education (JTE) Plans Exciting New Year of LEarning

by Samatha Fleischman

Join us this fall as Jewish Teen Education (JTE) returns revamped, revitalized and in person! JTE is a teen led and organized educational program for high school students in the greater New Haven community. Our goal at JTE is to provide stu-dents with the opportunity to continue their Jewish education past preparation for their bar/bat mitzvah. All classes are designed by our teen board and conducted by teachers chosen by these same teens. Classes take on various forms but are designed to create a space that is open and welcoming to all, regardless of religious background, and fosters lively and inclusive discussions. We strive to create pro-gramming that fits what our high school students are looking for and are excited to learn about.

After running community service projects last year, we will once again be hosting classes at the JCC for the 2021-2022 school year. However, classes will look a little different to keep that community service piece in play! Students will get to choose a class for the first hour of our programming with options ranging from Jewish rep-resentation in media to discussions of Israel to the ever-popular cooking classes. In the second half of our Tuesday nights, we will all come together to work on and learn about a specific social justice focused topic. For our first quarter we will be focusing on sustainability and environmental justice! Come join us every Tuesday night from 7-9pm beginning October 5 to take awesome classes and meet some really great people!
